چکیده

The invention of the laser in 1960 has been a very important milestone for our presentday society. This remarkable new light source not only triggered a revolution in science and technology but also gave rise to a significant improvement of the quality of our daily life. An important type of laser is the so-called Raman laser, the lasing mechanism of which is based on Stimulated Stokes Raman Scattering (SSRS). Some remarkable Raman laser examples are the hydrogen-based Raman laser and the revolutionary silicon-based Raman laser, both of which have a myriad of application potentialities e.g. in atmospheric spectroscopy, remote sensing, and laser medicine.

A Cooler Raman Laser

P ower dissipation, which results in heat generation in electronic chips, is the number one difficulty facing the semiconductor industry. The problem is so severe that it threatens to halt the huge development that has been enjoyed since the microprocessor industry’s inception — a doubling in processor performance roughly every 18 months, which was predicted by the celebrated Moore’s law. And t...

Spectral broadening in continuous-wave intracavity Raman lasers.

Spectral broadening of the fundamental field in intracavity Raman lasers is investigated. The mechanism for the spectral broadening is discussed and the effect is compared in two lasers using Raman crystals with different Raman linewidths. The impact of the spectral broadening on the effective Raman gain is analyzed, and the use of etalons to limit the fundamental spectral width is explored. It...

Continuous-wave Nd:YVO4 self-Raman lasers operating at 1109nm, 1158nm and 1231nm.

Several continuous-wave Nd:YVO(4) self-Raman lasers based on the primary and secondary Raman transitions of YVO(4) (893cm(-1) and 379cm(-1) respectively) are reported in this paper. Laser outputs were obtained at a wavelength of 1109nm, 1158nm and 1231nm with maximum output powers of 1.0W, 700mW and 540mW respectively. The respective absorbed pump power to Raman output power conversion efficien...

Investigation of SOI Raman Lasers for Mid-Infrared Gas Sensing

In this paper, the investigation and detailed modeling of a cascaded Raman laser, operating in the midwave infrared region, is described. The device is based on silicon-on-insulator optical waveguides and a coupled resonant microcavity. Theoretical results are compared with recent experiments, demonstrating a very good agreement. Design criteria are derived for cascaded Raman lasers working as ...

High-frequency modulation of continuous-wave laser beams by maximally coherent molecules

We suggest a technique where a molecular Raman transition is prepared near a maximally coherent state with continuous-wave CW laser beams. The key idea is to put the molecules inside a high-finesse cavity and to drive the molecular transition with two lasers whose frequency difference is slightly detuned from the Raman resonance. In this regime, the molecules become very efficient CW modulators...
